The people of Oman embraced Islam quickly after
the arrival of the Prophet's delegate 'Amr ibn
Al 'As in 630 A.D.
For that, the Prophet immortalized them in his
prayer: "Oh God be merciful with
the people of Ghubeira (the people of Oman), they
had faith in me without seeing me".
The Prophet also prayed for Oman saying, "Oh
God, lead them, Oh God give them decency, the
best in life and let them be satisfied with their
destiny. Oh God give them provisions in abundance,
give them wealth from their sea and do not allow
any enemy to dominate them".
Since that time, Oman has significantly contributed
to the Islamic civilisation. It participated in
developing an impressive body of science, theology,
linguistics, literature and maritime-related activities,
including navigation.
As a result, Oman established an identity characterised
by independence and tolerance, which constituted
the strongest of foundations for the state.
