Prophet
Hood's Tomb, Peace Be Upon Him
The prevailing local belief states that the Tomb
of the Prophet Hood is located in the Dhofar Mountains
between hills, valleys and water springs known
as:
(a) Hiryeh (b) Afileh (c) Itham
The three of them flow through the valley where
the tomb is situated. The tomb is 3 metres long
and 1.5 metres high. Prophet Hood was cited 7
times in the Holy Qur'an. He was sent to the Aad
tribe in the Al Ahqaf region.
Arabic references defiant Al Ahqaf. Al Tabary
said, "Al Ahqaf, plural of Haqf, means sands
creeping until they form a dune". 'Ata' said
that Al Ahqaf is the sands of Al Shahr Land. Ibn
Khaldoun said that Al Shahr, the Land of frankincense
where amber is found on its coast, is aded to
Oman and Hadramout.
According to Ibn Katheer, "Al Ahqaf is the
plural of Haqf, meaning the dune of sand, the
land of the Aad tribe; their area dwellings near
the sea were called Al Shahr and their fertile
land is situated between Oman and Hadramout".
It is also said, that Al Shahr is one of the numerous
names of ancient Dhofar. |

Prophet
Saleh's Tomb, Peace Be Upon Him
The Tomb of the Prophet Saleh is located
in a narrow valley in the mountains of Dhofar,
165 kilometres from the town of Salalah in the
valley of Anhoor, between Hasik and Hadbeen near
Ra's Nus. The tomb is 8,80 metres long and 1,5
metres high.
Prophet Saleh
was cited 9 times in the Holy Qur'an, as a Prophet
sent to the Thamud tribe, who came after Aad.
The members of this tribe lived to an advanced
age and had very strong bodies, helping them to
lead a similar nomadic life to the Aad tribe and
the people who came before them. The description
of the Arabian Peninsula by Alhammdani, reported
that the village of Hasik, in the eastern part
of Dhofar, housed the tomb of the Prophet Saleh,
who was the son of the Prophet Hood.
It was believed that Prophet Saleh lived with
his tribe in the Al Ahqaf Land; before going to
the northern part of Al Hijaz (Madaen Saleh) and
to Bilad Al Cham. After the disappearance of the
Thamud tribe, Prophet Saleh visited Bilad Al Cham,
stayed in Palestine, went to Mecca and then returned
to his native land in Al Ahqaf. |
