Omani sailors have practiced navigation for
thousands of years. Their seafaring experience
prospered through their contact with the civilizations
of Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley. They established
an impressive trading network with India, China,
East Africa, the Mediterranean countries, the
United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
The
contents of the different sections in this Hall
provide an insight into boat building, navigation
skills, maritime trade and life at sea.
The
models of traditional Omani boats featured here
are examples of those built for the various
types of fishing and trading, from the most
ancient times to the present day.
