The introduction of steam engines in shipping led
to strong competition between the countries of the
western Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. Consequently
the Omani fleet, which comprised traditional vessels,
found itself unable to keep up with……
and Oman’s regional and economic role slowly
decreased, as well as the standard of living.
With
the Dawn of the Renaissance in 1970, a new era was
ushered in and modern ports and technologically advanced
boats were built and so, once again, Oman is reclaiming
its former maritime status.
